Phobias Are Just Another Form Of An Anxiety Disorder
Phobias are unreasonable fears of specific things.
You may already understand that there are a huge number of phobias that people are afflicted with. Because there are so many different phobias there are also just as many treatments for them. You will find that many people will end up suffering from generalized anxiety disorder and it is one of the better know disorders out there.
Generalized anxiety disorder can be described as someone who is afraid of something that is beyond their control. As a result, you are not able to carry on with your normal life.
There is another phobia that effects people and it is almost based on the same theory. The basis of this fear is when you have absolutely nothing to be afraid of, however you are afraid of it anyway. Now that we have touched on anxiety disorders, we are going to go over some more phobias.
If you are afraid of slopes you have Bathmophobia. When it comes to this disorder it is never easy to diagnose. From time to time this disorder is mistakenly diagnosed as Climacophobia. One thing you should realize is that this phobia can paralyze people just by looking at stairs. Whereas people who suffer from climacophobia can look at slopes or stairs, but they do not experience anxiety until they actually have to physically go up or down them. For some of the people who suffer from bathmophobia even looking at a steep hill can cause fear.
You may not have heard of Lilapsophobia, but you probably know people who suffer from it, it is the fear of bad weather.
Rain will not normally be an issue, but these people may start to feel a little anxious and keep watching the weather. While these people have no issue with rain they will still be watching and waiting for worse weather. And when it comes to being prepared, these people normally have a plan for any kind of weather that could possibly happen. If this person has purchased an underground weather shelter, he might run to the shelter at the first crackle of lightning, thinking that a major storm is about to break out. Most of the time these people will never leave their homes unless the sun is out because they are afraid of getting caught in bad weather.
Fear of the number 13 is something that may seem strange but it is a real fear and it is called triskaidekaphobia. You will find that people that have this phobia, are deathly afraid of anthing that may have the number 13 in it or about it. This is such a huge phobia that many companies and businesses stay away from the number thirteen as well. Not only will building claim they have no 13th floor but also they will not let people have events on the 13th. Hotels and other building are not the only businesses effected with this as airlines will never have a 13th row on their planes or have a flight number that includes the number 13 anywhere in it. Without these simple changes, businesses would also suffer as a result of this phobia.
All in all, there are plenty of things that people fear in the world. What I don't understand is when people fear strange things like cracks in the sidewalk. While we covered a few fears here you will learn that there are probably millions of different types of fears and just because you don't understand them, that doesn't make it any less fearful for the sufferer.
